Tempo Urban Kitchen – Brea CA

Walking in we are reminded of a Modern Cantina.  We arrived early as we were heading to the local playhouse so we did not see the restaurant in full flight.  Upon arrival we checked in and a couple moments before our reservation and we immediately seated.

We started with two House Specialty Drinks:

  • IMG_7753The Gardez Margarita: Mango—Serrano Infused Tequila, Grilled Pineapple, Mango, Cucumber. Yum
  • IMG_7756OC Mule: Ketel One Orange Vodka, Lemon Juice, Orange Bitters topped with Ginger Beer

Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly, very helpful and seemed like they enjoyed being at work.  When greeted by our server, Cindy, we advised her this was our first visit and she did a thorough job of explaining the menu and making suggestions in each category and advised us of the house specialties.  We were greeted by several staff members all of whom we very friendly and interested in our enjoyment and inquired if we needed anything.  A total team approach to service.

We accepted several of server Cindy’s suggestions after considerable discussion.  Too bad we did not have a bigger party so we could try more items.  Here is our evaluations:

  • We started with the Tinga Taquitos. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was equally impressive.
  • IMG_7760Seafood Rice: Saffron Rice, Octopus, Shrimp, Market Fish, Green Onion, Tomato & Chipotle. This was served in a great bowl and filled with fish.  I was impressed by the amount of Jumbo Shrimps included.  I have paid significantly more money for a smaller portion and less fish.  The spices and flavors worked well together and was plentiful.
  • IMG_7761Flatbread Ceviche: Tomato, Mozzarella, Shrimp Ceviche, Chipotle and Avocado. The flatbread was very good the topping was full of spice and presented wonderfully.

Our biggest problem, and a good one to have, was with all the food and drink we could not try any of the deserts, however we will be back to continue our experience.

The overall rating on a scale of 1-5 was 4.9
